Rental Cars
Locally established over 20 years ago, Medlands Rentals is the longest serving car rental company on Great Barrier Island.
Founders Trish and Skilly originally started the enterprise when they found a need to provide transport options for guests at their lodge and rental cars weren’t always readily available.
From the original “fleet” of two sedans, they have grown the business to include a range of vehicles, and expanded to include a shuttle service.
Skilly is a long time Barrier resident. He previously ran a fishing charter business and has a weatlth of local knowledge. He is happy to offer suggestions and answer any questions you may have about your stay.

What to do when you are here
Activities on Great Barrier Island include exploring the regenerating native forest on the numerous walking tracks. Enjoy the native flora and fauna, including many endangered species such as the black petrel, chevron skink and pateke (brown teal duck). Many of our beaches are well known for great surfing as well as fishing, diving, snorkelling and kayaking. There’s also golf, mountain biking, a pottery, museums and local art galleries to visit.
